Hi, i'm Emma
I’m Emma Stokes, an APC-qualified Specialist SpLD Assessor and Teacher and founder of The SpLD Hub. I have worked specifically within SpLD practice since 2017, supporting children, young people and adults with dyslexia, dyscalculia and associated learning needs.
Since establishing my specialist practice, I have carried out more than 400 in-depth assessments with children, young people and adults. My work combines diagnostic assessment with direct specialist teaching and support. This means I don't only assess learning difficulties — I work directly with people experiencing them and understand how they can affect learning, education, work and everyday life.
That practical experience informs how I interpret assessment findings and, importantly, the recommendations I make. My aim is for an assessment to provide more than a diagnostic outcome: it should give a clear understanding of an individual's strengths and difficulties and practical guidance about what will help next.
I work with individuals across a range of settings and organisations, including schools and education providers, local authorities, the NHS and private clients. My approach is flexible, collaborative and always tailored to the individual — whether I’m assessing a child, supporting a student with exam access arrangements, or helping an adult understand appropriate workplace adjustments. I offer full diagnostic assessments for dyslexia and dyscalculia, alongside ADHD screening and adult Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) screening. I also work with individuals with processing and memory difficulties and those whose learning profiles may co-occur with autistic traits. While I do not diagnose autism, I have extensive experience working with autistic individuals and adapt assessment and tuition accordingly to reduce anxiety and provide a respectful, neurodivergent-friendly experience. My services also include Exam Access Arrangements assessments, alongside specialist 1:1 teaching, mentoring and study skills support for learners with SpLDs.

Qualified & Compliant
All assessments are conducted by a specialist with a current Assessment Practising Certificate (APC). Reports meet all relevant standards: SASC (SpLD Assessment Standards Committee), JCQ (Exam Access Arrangements), Access to Work, and ASA (Adult Services Assessments).

No Hidden Fees
Optional add-ons like ADHD/DCD screening or follow-up consultations are clearly priced. If the background info suggests numeracy difficulties, a numeracy assessment is included within the Dyslexia process at no extra charge.

I liaise (with consent) with schools, colleges, and employers to help implement support recommendations, and offer optional follow-up guidance post-assessment.
