SUPPORTING

FURTHER EDUCATION

Supporting learners in college, sixth form, and vocational training with tailored assessments, tuition, and mentoring.

Many young people in Further Education (FE) find themselves facing new learning challenges, navigating increased independence, or continuing with support needs identified earlier in their education. I offer a range of services designed to help FE learners thrive — whether they're preparing for qualifications, managing specific learning differences, or building the skills they need for work or higher education.

Who I Support

I work with learners aged 16 and over who are studying in:

  • Sixth forms or colleges

  • Vocational training programmes or apprenticeships

  • EOTAS (Education Other Than At School) arrangements

  • Alternative provision settings

  • Students with EHCPs continuing their education into post-16 or post-18 phases

I also support learners working towards Functional Skills, GCSE re-sits, or making the transition into higher education.

What I offer

Diagnostic Assessments

I provide formal diagnostic assessments for dyslexia and dyscalculia (face-to-face only for dyscalculia), as well as screeners for ADHD and SpLD indicators. Reports are tailored to the post-16 context and can inform learning support plans or Exam Access Arrangements.

Study Skills & Functional Skills Support

I offer targeted tuition to build confidence and competence in:
- Functional Skills English and maths
- Revision techniques
- Time management and organisation
- Assignment planning and coursework structure

Mentoring & Coaching

Personalised sessions can help learners with:
- Managing transitions
- Developing resilience and confidence
- Staying focused and reducing overwhelm
- Preparing for work or university

EHCP and SEN Support

I collaborate with families, colleges, and support staff to provide insight and input into EHCP reviews and learner support planning. I also offer advice for those exploring alternative pathways.

Unsure If You Might Need Extra Learning Support in College?

The Traits Questionnaire is a short, reflective tool designed for students in Further Education who may be wondering if they’d benefit from a screener or full diagnostic assessment. It’s not a test and there are no right or wrong answers — just an opportunity to think about how you learn and where extra support might help.

It’s ideal for students who are struggling to keep up, finding coursework overwhelming, or feeling like they’re working much harder than others for the same results. Whether you complete it yourself or with the help of a parent, tutor, or support staff, it can offer a clearer picture of your needs and next steps.

Please note: This is not a diagnostic tool, but it can help you decide whether to seek formal assessment or start a conversation with your college’s learning support team.

What to Expect from a Diagnositic Assessment

Assessments and tuition can take place online or face-to-face (in my dedicated home office or by arrangement).

Sessions are flexible and person-centred, with clear communication and progress tracking.

Schools, colleges, or families can make a referral, or learners can reach out directly.

Initial contact

You can either book an assessment directly online or get in touch for an informal chat to discuss your concerns and what you’re hoping to achieve.

Gathering background information

Before the assessment, I’ll ask you to complete a questionnaire about your development, strengths, and challenges. I may also request a similar questionnaire to be completed by your college or sixth form. If you work with private tutors, it’s helpful to gather a summary of strengths and difficulties from them as well. This collaborative approach ensures a fuller picture of your needs.

The assessment session

Assessments are conducted in a calm, supportive environment, either in person or online, depending on what works best for you. The session length varies but typically lasts around 2 hours (slightly longer if it’s a combined assessment). Breaks and activities are incorporated to help you stay comfortable and focused throughout the session.

Detailed report

After the assessment, you’ll receive a clear, easy-to-understand written report outlining your child’s learning profile, strengths, and areas of difficulty. It will include practical recommendations for school, home, and any exam access arrangements.

Follow-up and support

I’ll explain the results in detail, answer your questions, and offer guidance on next steps. If needed, I can liaise with college /sixth form or other professionals with your consent, and provide tuition or mentoring support.

What to Expect from Specialist Tuition & Mentoring

Studying in college or training can feel overwhelming at times — especially if you're dealing with challenges around focus, organisation, or how you learn best. My tuition and mentoring sessions are designed to support you in a way that’s flexible, practical, and completely tailored to your needs. Whether you need help breaking down tasks, building confidence with reading or writing, or managing your time more effectively, I’ll work with you at your pace to help you feel more in control of your learning.

A Friendly Start

We’ll begin with a relaxed conversation to understand your needs, strengths, and what’s been tried before. This may follow an assessment, or you might just feel that you need extra support.

A Personalised Plan

We’ll build a personalised support plan based on your goals — whether that means focused help with spelling, reading comprehension, or maths, or mentoring to develop study strategies, confidence, and greater independence in your learning.

Flexible Sessions

Sessions are delivered online or in person (where available), with timings that fit around your college schedule or other commitments. I keep things positive and encouraging, creating a supportive space where you can build skills and confidence at your own pace.

Ongoing Feedback

I’ll keep you updated on how things are going and adjust the approach if needed. Clear, open communication is a key part of how I work — so you’ll always know what we’re focusing on and how it’s helping.

Encouraging Growth

Most importantly, my aim is to help you feel more confident and capable — not just in your learning, but in yourself.

Shared Experiences

Student

ZB

“Service was great from start (booking) to end (receiving the report) Emma was professional and replied to emails answering questions promptly even after the report was given.”  Since the assessment the student has been given “support provided from college, extra time in exams” and they feel that  the assessment “will support with transition to university”.

Female Student

SP

“The whole process was made very clear and a lot less daunting than I thought it would be.

Having the assessment and diagnosis triggered a change in my daughter’s attitude to learning. She suddenly realised that she was able and ‘could’ do the learning, it would just be in ‘her’ way. Having the suggested support included also nudged the school into providing the working environment needed for her to achieve. This whole journey has made my daughter want to study education at university focussing on how she can help others, like her, overcome their learning challenges.”

Ready When You Are!

Every learner deserves support that fits their individual needs. Whether you're just starting to explore assessment or tuition options, or you're ready to take the next step, I'm here to guide you with kindness and clarity.

You can book assessments directly online, or get in touch anytime for an informal chat about tuition or mentoring. There's no pressure — just support that works
