Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy
1. Statement of Commitment
The SpLD Hub is committed to promoting equality, valuing diversity, and ensuring inclusive, respectful practice for all clients – including children, young people, adults – as well as their families, and any relevant partners. I believe that everyone has the right to access services free from discrimination, prejudice, or bias.
As a sole trader, I take personal responsibility for ensuring that my work is inclusive and aligned with the principles set out in the Equality Act 2010.
2. Aims
This policy aims to:
-
Promote equal access to services regardless of age, disability, gender, gender reassignment, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation.
-
Ensure that diversity is recognised, respected, and reflected in my work.
-
Prevent direct and indirect discrimination in the delivery of services.
-
Ensure that any barriers to access are identified and addressed sensitively.
3. Scope
This policy applies to:
-
All clients – including children, young people, and adults – and their families/carers, where relevant.
-
All services delivered — including tuition, therapy, mentoring, and assessments.
-
Any environment in which services are provided, whether in person or online.
4. Implementation
As a sole trader, I will:
-
Treat all clients and families with dignity and respect.
-
Provide services that are culturally sensitive and responsive to individual needs.
-
Make reasonable adjustments to ensure accessibility (e.g., adapting materials or delivery methods for clients with disabilities or language needs).
-
Continuously reflect on my practice to identify and challenge any unconscious bias or barriers to inclusion.
5. Language and Communication
-
I will use inclusive, respectful language at all times.
-
I will communicate in ways that are age-appropriate, accessible, and adapted to any individual communication needs.
-
I welcome feedback from clients and their families on how to better support their cultural, linguistic, or personal requirements.
6. Responding to Discrimination
If I become aware of discriminatory behaviour (in client settings, partner organisations, or through other professionals), I will:
-
Address it directly where appropriate and safe to do so.
-
Report it to relevant authorities (e.g., school, local authority, safeguarding lead) where necessary.
-
Document the incident and the steps taken, in line with safeguarding procedures.
7. Training and Development
I will continue to:
-
Undertake CPD related to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
-
Stay informed of relevant changes in equality law or best practice.
-
Reflect on personal learning needs relating to cultural competence and inclusive practice.
8. Monitoring and Review
-
I will regularly review this policy to ensure it reflects current legislation and best practice.
-
Feedback from clients will inform the review process.
-
Updates will be made if the nature of my services, client base, or legal framework changes.
