SUPPORTING
CHILDREN & PARENTS
If you’re a parent or carer worried about your child’s learning, focus, or progress, you’re not alone. Many bright, capable children face challenges with reading, spelling, maths, memory, or concentration, and getting clear answers can feel overwhelming.
I bring 20 years of experience in education, including 10 years as a specialist teacher assessor. I offer calm, child-friendly assessments and screeners to identify specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyscalculia, and ADHD. While I do not diagnose autism, I can provide support and guidance if autism is a consideration.
I understand that every child’s educational journey is unique. I work with families supporting children who have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs), those receiving education outside mainstream settings (EOTAS), and learners pursuing alternative qualifications such as Functional Skills. My assessments and support are tailored to fit these varied pathways, helping you and your child find the best way forward.
Whether your child needs a full assessment or you’d like to start with a screening to see if a deeper assessment is needed, I’ll work closely with you to build a clear picture of your child’s strengths and needs — and what support can help.
My assessments are relaxed, encouraging, and focused on empowering families with clear, practical information.
What I Offer for Children & Parents
Every child is unique, and so is the support they need. I offer a range of assessments and screeners to help identify specific learning difficulties and guide you towards the best next steps.
Screening Assessments
If you’re unsure whether your child needs a full assessment, I offer gentle, straightforward screeners for dyslexia, dyscalculia, and ADHD. These help highlight areas of difficulty and decide if a more detailed assessment would be beneficial.
Exam Access Arrangements (Form 8 Reports)
If your child is in secondary school (Summer Term Year 9 – Spring Term Year 11), it’s important to liaise with the school ahead of the assessment to confirm their willingness to work with me on completing Form 8 (if this hasn’t already been completed), which is required for requesting Exam Access Arrangements. This form, completed by the school, provides evidence to support the application to exam boards.
Tuition and Mentoring
After assessment, many children benefit from targeted support. I offer specialist tuition tailored to your child’s strengths and challenges, as well as mentoring to build confidence and self-advocacy skills.
Support and Guidance for Families
I understand that navigating assessments and support can be overwhelming. I’m here to help you understand the process, explain reports in plain language, and advise on next steps with schools or local authorities.
Full Specialist Assessments
For children who need a deeper understanding of their learning profile, I carry out comprehensive assessments for dyslexia and dyscalculia following professional guidelines. These assessments provide detailed reports that schools, local authorities, and exam boards accept.
Noticing Signs Your Child Might Need Support?
The Traits Questionnaire is a short, parent-friendly tool designed to help you reflect on your child’s learning behaviours and experiences. It’s not a diagnostic test, but it can highlight patterns that may suggest a screener or full diagnostic assessment could be helpful.
Many parents use this questionnaire as a starting point when they’ve noticed persistent difficulties or when their child is feeling frustrated, anxious, or falling behind in school despite trying hard.
Your responses can guide your next steps — whether that’s seeking further assessment, discussing concerns with school, or simply understanding how to better support your child’s learning at home.
Please note: This is a reflective tool, not a formal assessment, but it can offer clarity and confidence in moving forward.

What to Expect from a Diagnositic Assessment
I know that arranging an assessment for your child can feel overwhelming, and you might have lots of questions. My goal is to make the process as simple, friendly, and supportive as possible.

Initial contact
You can either book an assessment directly online or get in touch for an informal chat to discuss your concerns and what you’re hoping to achieve.
Gathering background information
Before the assessment, I’ll ask you to complete a questionnaire about your child’s development, strengths, and challenges. I’ll also request a similar questionnaire to be completed by your child’s school. If your child works with private tutors, it’s helpful to gather a summary of strengths and difficulties from them as well. This collaborative approach ensures a fuller picture of your child’s needs.
The assessment session
Assessments are carried out in a calm, child-friendly environment. The session length varies but usually takes around 2 hours (slightly longer if a combined assessment). I use breaks and activities to keep your child comfortable and engaged.
Detailed report
After the assessment, you’ll receive a clear, easy-to-understand written report outlining your child’s learning profile, strengths, and areas of difficulty. It will include practical recommendations for school, home, and any exam access arrangements.
Follow-up and support
I’ll explain the results in detail, answer your questions, and offer guidance on next steps. If needed, I can liaise with schools or other professionals with your consent, and provide tuition or mentoring support.
What to Expect from Specialist Tuition & Mentoring
If your child is struggling with aspects of learning — whether it’s reading, spelling, maths, focus, or confidence — I offer gentle, structured support tailored to their needs. Some children need a boost with academic skills, others benefit from a mentor to guide and encourage them through the ups and downs of learning.

A Friendly Start
We’ll begin with a relaxed conversation to understand your child’s needs, strengths, and what’s been tried before. This may follow an assessment, or you might just feel they need extra support.
A Personalised Plan
I create a tailored support plan that’s right for your child, whether it’s focused tuition (like spelling, reading comprehension, or numeracy) or mentoring to build confidence, focus, and independence.
Flexible Sessions
Sessions are delivered online or in-person (where available), with timings that suit your family. I keep things positive and encouraging, helping your child feel safe and supported as they learn.
Ongoing Feedback
I’ll keep you updated on how things are going, and adjust the approach if needed. Open, honest communication with families is at the heart of what I do.
Encouraging Growth
Most importantly, my aim is to help your child feel more confident and capable — not just in their learning, but in themselves.

Shared Experiences

“Emma was very personable and put my 14 years old son at ease. His assessment was completed with report on time and Emma worked with his school to make arrangements for his further studying and exams. He is currently completing his GCSEs with additional time and his confidence since his assessment has grown enormously.”

“Thank you so much for your report - I've read many, many reports over the years to secure **’s educational provision - so It was brilliant to read a report that was specific and quantified!
**’s was relieved to confirm her suspicions, which is a huge step for her as she now views a diagnosis as opening doors for support.”

"After years of ignorance and phonic intervention at school. with little improvement - a few months with Emma and she is reading pretty hard words. We are astounded at how quickly this has turned around - it just seems to have clicked into place with the right teacher.
Thank you is not enough”
